Despite the wintry weather we’re still expe­ri­encing, spring is actu­ally around the corner, which means local uni­ver­si­ties have started thinking about this year’s grad­u­a­tion ceremonies.

Although sev­eral schools haven’t announced their com­mence­ment speakers yet, a few eager uni­ver­si­ties have recently released their choices for the 2014 ceremonies.

On Wednesday, North­eastern Uni­ver­sity announced Janet Napoli­tano will speak at com­mence­ment. In 2009, Napoli­tano became the first woman to serve as the sec­re­tary of home­land secu­rity and, in 2013, she became the first woman to serve as pres­i­dent of the Uni­ver­sity of Cal­i­fornia school system. She was ranked the eighth most pow­erful woman in the world by Forbes in 2012.
