December 12, 2012 — A close-​​up of existing (first three items) sur­gical mesh securing devices and a mockup of the helical device (right) that senior mechan­ical engi­neering stu­dents Charles O’€™Connell, David Stone, Andrew Edgerly, Charles Sidoti and Joseph Aaron designed to be implanted using a reusable instru­ment with a novel rotary drive that pro­vides tac­tile feed­back to sur­geons per­forming laparo­scopic surgery. The instru­ment is one of two win­ning designs in this semester’s Mechan­ical and Indus­trial Engi­neering Cap­stone projects
