Today, North­eastern Uni­ver­sity will cel­e­brate the accom­plish­ments of the class of 2009 during the school’s 107th com­mence­ment. More than 2,700 under­grad­u­ates will receive degrees in the pres­ence of thou­sands of family mem­bers and friends at TD Ban­knorth Garden. The cer­e­mony begins at 10:30 a.m.

Ken­neth Cole, chairman and chief cre­ative officer of Ken­neth Cole Pro­duc­tions, Inc. and cham­pion of social causes, such as AIDS research and home­less­ness, will deliver the keynote address. He will also receive an hon­orary Doctor of Public Service.

North­eastern will also rec­og­nize Barry Shrage, pres­i­dent of Com­bined Jewish Phil­an­thropies, and Molly Cor­bett Broad, pres­i­dent of the Amer­ican Council on Edu­ca­tion, with hon­orary degrees. Shrage will receive a Doctor of Humane Let­ters and Broad, a Doctor of Let­ters, during the morning ceremony.

Dr. Gary Got­tlieb, pres­i­dent of Brigham and Women’s Hos­pital and president-​​elect of Part­ners Health­Care, will speak at the after­noon com­mence­ment, which is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Matthews Arena. Nearly 1,700 stu­dents from the grad­uate schools, the School of Tech­no­log­ical Entre­pre­neur­ship and the Col­lege of Pro­fes­sional Studies will receive degrees at the after­noon ceremony.

Dr. Got­tlieb, one of three hon­orary degree recip­i­ents in the after­noon, will receive a Doctor of Sci­ence. Angela Menino, First Lady of the City of Boston, will receive a Doctor of Public Ser­vice, and J. Keith Motley, chan­cellor of the Uni­ver­sity of Mass­a­chu­setts, Boston, will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters.
