Local Com­mu­nity Invited to All-​​Day Event to Receive Health­care Infor­ma­tion, Flu Shots and Donate Blood on Wednesday, October 22

WHAT: North­eastern Uni­ver­sity will host the second annual Bouvé Health Fair and Flu Clinic to pro­vide stu­dents and local com­mu­nity mem­bers with health-​​related ser­vices and infor­ma­tion on healthy living and to raise cancer and dis­ease aware­ness. In addi­tion to free flu shots offered by the Uni­ver­sity Health and Coun­seling Ser­vices and the Boston Public Health Com­mis­sion (BPHC), the day’s events include free bone den­sity and cho­les­terol tests and blood pres­sure screen­ings, a chance to ask ques­tions about med­ica­tions and a blood drive hosted by Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Flu shots will be given by 60 senior nursing stu­dents in the Vul­ner­able Pop­u­la­tions class under the super­vi­sion of Nursing and Phar­macy fac­ulty members.

Joining North­eastern for the event are sev­eral pro­fes­sional orga­ni­za­tions, including the BPHC, Brigham and Women’s Hos­pital, the AIDS Action Com­mittee of Mass­a­chu­setts and the Amer­ican Pharmacist’s Asso­ci­a­tion. The Melanoma Edu­ca­tion Foun­da­tion will also be at the health fair and will edu­cate stu­dents, par­ents and teachers on the dan­gers of skin cancer and the impor­tance of skin safety and offer stu­dents a chance to try a facial sun damage analyzer.

Addi­tional ser­vices pro­vided to stu­dents and com­mu­nity mem­bers at the event include a smoking ces­sa­tion clinic, HIV aware­ness and testing infor­ma­tion, alcohol aware­ness, dia­betes aware­ness, stroke aware­ness, oral cancer aware­ness, hearing tests and other useful ser­vices for those who want to increase their con­trol over their health.

Stu­dent and Uni­ver­sity orga­ni­za­tions par­tic­i­pating in the event, in addi­tion to its pri­mary orga­nizers Phi Delta Chi and the Bouvé Col­lege of Health Sci­ences, include North­eastern Uni­ver­sity Public Safety, the Stu­dent Gov­erne­ment Asso­ci­a­tion, Rho Chi Phar­macy Honor Society, the University’s Urban Aware­ness Depart­ment, Northeastern’s chapter of Col­leges against Cancer, Lambda Kappa Sigma, the Stu­dent National Phar­ma­ceu­tical Asso­ci­a­tion, Uni­ver­sity Health and Coun­seling Ser­vices at North­eastern, the Bio­chem­istry club and the Stu­dent Nurses Association.

Phi Delta Chi is a Pro­fes­sional Phar­macy Fra­ter­nity. Its mis­sion is to fur­ther the pro­fes­sion of phar­macy and its allied health sciences.
