Recognition Underscores Success of Experiential Learning Model

Northeastern University has once again been recognized as a leader in preparing students to build successful careers that start before graduation and continue long after. The University earned the number 1 ranking—driven by student satisfaction—in the Best Career and Job Placement Services category in this year’s edition of The Princeton Review.

Northeastern University’s partnerships with more than 2,500 national and international companies and its century-long history of leadership in experiential learning and cooperative education make the University’s mission to educate students for a life of fulfillment and accomplishment even more timely in the present climate of global economic uncertainty.

As academic institutions are paying close attention to the current economic turmoil and its effects on their students entering the national and international job markets, Northeastern University students have long been successfully leveraging their accomplishments in the University’s experiential learning model to launch their careers on a swift upward trajectory.

Underscoring the importance of pre-graduation job placements for students’ ability to enter the world of business upon graduation, this year’s results of BusinessWeek’s national rankings placed Northeastern’s College of Business Administration (CBA) at the top of the list in the category of internships. With more than 98 percent of CBA students completing internships each year, business students at Northeastern are transforming the excellence of their academic and work experience into successful careers.

The findings of these national surveys confirm Northeastern University’s excellence not only as an outstanding research university, but also for being exemplary in providing students with a learning model that integrates academic and co-op experience, building a foundation for rewarding professional lives,” said Dr. Jack R. Greene, Vice Provost for Experiential Education at Northeastern University.

Northeastern University students benefit from a powerful combination of rigorous classroom studies integrated with experiential learning opportunities, anchored by the nation’s largest, most innovative cooperative education program that enables them to gain up to 18 months of full-time work experience while completing college. Undergraduate research opportunities allow Northeastern students to become knowledge creators, build critical-thinking skills, and assist faculty members in making discoveries that translate into solutions for global and societal problems, while international co-op placements, service learning, and opportunities for study abroad prepare Northeastern’s students for leadership in the emerging global economy.
