Professor nominated for prestigious Mirror Award
Northeastern University is proud to announce that Dan Kennedy, Assistant Professor at the School of Journalism, has been nominated for an esteemed Mirror Award in the category of “Best Commentary”. Kennedy has been recognized for his work as a contributor at The Guardian. At Northeastern, Kennedy teaches news reporting, press law, media criticism and other journalism courses, with an emphasis on blogging and new media.
Stephen Burgard, Director of the School of Journalism said, “Dan is one of the leading observers of the press, especially in the changing world of online journalism. His selection as a finalist underscores his importance in this area.”
Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications recently announced finalists in five categories in the second annual Mirror Awards competition honoring excellence in media industry reporting. The finalists are amongst the most distinguished journalists in the nation and were chosen by a group of journalists and journalism educators.
Nominations for “Best Commentary” were based on two to four pieces that demonstrate the writer’s overall knowledge of the issues, analytic skills and unique voice. Pieces nominated can address a single subject or may cover a variety of subjects and may be originally published in any format: print, web site, blog or broadcast. This category recognizes opinion, humor and columnists.
The Mirror Awards, established by the Newhouse School in 2006, honor the reporters, editors and teams of writers who hold a mirror to their own industry for the public’s benefit. Honorees are recognized for news judgment and command of craft in reporting, analysis and commentary on developments in the media industry and its role in economy, culture and democracy.
The media’s top writers, readers and leaders will gather June 23, at the Rainbow Room in New York City, to celebrate the winners.
