Memorial Ceremony Honors Alumni and Students Perished During Wartime Service

Northeastern University will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony this weekend to remember the nearly 300 alumni and students of the institution who died in service to their country during wartime. Members, friends and family of the Northeastern community are invited to attend the special event honoring our fallen heroes. The event will take place at the university’s Veterans Memorial site, a black granite monument featuring the names, on dog-tag-like metal plaques, of Northeastern alumni and students who died in uniform, from World War I through the current Iraq War.

As part of the event, Northeastern will lay wreaths to reflect on five military conflicts in our country’s recent history, including WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

This year’s ceremony will pay special tribute to SSG Robert Pirelli, a 2001 graduate of the College of Criminal Justice, who lost his life in battle during his Iraq deployment this summer. His name will be added to the ones on the Veterans Memorial.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 10th, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at 120 Forsyth Street, Boston, MA 02115.

Immediately following the event, veterans and alumni are invited as Northeastern University’s guests for Husky football at Parson’s Field as Northeastern takes on Hofstra University. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Halftime ceremonies will feature a special tribute to our veterans.
