Local Com­mu­nity Invited to All-​​Day Event to Receive Health­care Infor­ma­tion, Flu Shots, Cho­les­terol Test and Donate Blood

WHAT: North­eastern Uni­ver­sity is hosting its first annual Bouvé Health Fair and Flu Clinic to pro­vide stu­dents and the local com­mu­nity an oppor­tu­nity to learn about new ser­vices, ask ques­tions about med­ica­tions, get free advice on healthy living, or to try the sun damage facial ana­lyzer, and get blood pres­sures checks. The event is also intended to raise cancer and dis­ease aware­ness. In addi­tion to the free ser­vices and learning oppor­tu­ni­ties, $25 flu shots and 12$ cho­les­terol tests, the day’s events will include a blood drive with Mass­a­chu­setts Gen­eral Hos­pital pro­viding a second blood­mo­bile due to the large number of vol­un­teers who have already signed up to donate.

Joining North­eastern for the event are sev­eral pro­fes­sional orga­ni­za­tions, including Mass­a­chu­setts Gen­eral Hos­pital, Amer­ican Phar­ma­cists Asso­ci­a­tion, AIDS Action Com­mittee, Fam­i­lies for Depres­sion Aware­ness, Healthy Achievers, Melanoma Aware­ness Edu­ca­tion Group, and the Melanoma Edu­ca­tion Foun­da­tion, who will pro­vide free coun­seling and lit­er­a­ture on dif­ferent health con­di­tions, among other useful ser­vices for those who want to take con­trol of their health.

Addi­tional ser­vices offered to vis­i­tors at the event include smoking ces­sa­tion clinic; HIV aware­ness and testing infor­ma­tion; alcohol aware­ness; dia­betes aware­ness; oral cancer aware­ness; hearing damage due to loud noises aware­ness; depres­sion aware­ness; coun­seling on melanoma and skin damage, among others.

Stu­dent and uni­ver­sity orga­ni­za­tions also par­tic­i­pating in the all-​​day event, in addi­tion to the pri­mary orga­nizers Phi Delta Chi and the Bouvé Col­lege of Health Sci­ences, include North­eastern Uni­ver­sity Public Safety, Stu­dent Gov­ern­ment Asso­ci­a­tion, Lamda Kappa Sigma, Rho Chi, Stu­dent Nurses Asso­ci­a­tion, Stu­dent National Phar­ma­ceu­tical Asso­ci­a­tion and the Uni­ver­sity Health and Coun­seling Ser­vices at Northeastern.

Phi Delta Chi is a Pro­fes­sional Phar­macy Fra­ter­nity at North­eastern Uni­ver­sity, with the mis­sion to fur­ther the pro­fes­sion of phar­macy and its allied health sciences.
