According to Cadet Command, Ranger Challenge is the ROTC varsity sport. Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for motivated cadets to train and compete against other schools in a brigade wide annual competition.
Overview– Members of the Ranger Challenge team spend their time training to prepare themselves physically, mentally and technically for the brigade competition each fall.
Training– The physical training of the Ranger Challenge team includes group road marches, runs, fireman and litter carries as well as obstacle course familiarization. In addition to the group exercise, a serious committment to individual physical fitness is required – team members are expected to be the fittest representatives of their schools. The technical training for Ranger Challenge includes land navigation, TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care), weapons assembly and disassembly, rope work (one rope bridge, swiss rappel seats, etc.) and small unit tactics.
