New England Environmental Justice Research Network

Dear Environmental Justice Advocate,

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join the newly formed New England Environmental Justice Research Network (NEEJRN).   Please look over the information below, and fill-out the registration form if you would like to become a NEEJRN Associate.  Please forward this invitation along to others as well.

The overall goal of NEEJRN is to facilitate community-driven research on environmental and social justice issues that is of service to the EJ movement in New England.  More specifically, we hope to help researchers to network and build partnerships with lower-income communities and communities of color.  NEEJRN accomplishes these objectives by acting as a conduit for matching community groups in need of research assistance with scholars, scientists, academic research centers and institutes, professional and non-professional researchers and consultants, and other organizations.

How does NEEJRN work?

Any organization or individual is free to join as an NEEJRN Associate.  NEEJRN operates out of the Northeastern Environmental Justice Research Collaborative (NEJRC) at Northeastern University in Boston.  Daniel Faber, a long-time environmental justice scholar and advocate, serves as the Coordinator for NEERN, and is the Director of the NEJRC.

On this website a profile (including contact information and areas of expertise) of all the registered NEEJRN Associates will be provided.  EJ organizations that would like to put out a “call” for research assistance may contact individual researchers themselves, or send a description of their research problem and need to Dr. Faber, who will then forward it along to the entire NEEJRN membership via a listserve e-mail notification.  It will then be up to the individual researchers to respond to this call if they are qualified and interested in working on a particular project.  In the future, NEEJRN may also serve to coordinate meetings, discussion groups, public talks, conferences, and other kinds of EJ-related events.

If you would like to join, please return your registration form to Daniel Faber, NEEJRN Coordinator at d.faber@neu.edu or dannyfaber@comcast.net.  Correspondence can be mailed to Dr. Faber at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, 509 Holmes Hall, 360 Huntington Avenue, Northeastern University, Boston, MA 02115, or call 617-373-2878.

Best,
Daniel Faber
