Dr. Phil Brown

Phil Brown is Professor of Sociology and Environmental Studies at Brown University, where he directs the Community Engagement Core of Brown’s Superfund Research Program and the Community Outreach and Translation Core of Brown’s Children’s Environmental Health Center.He is the director of Hospitals for a Healthy Environment in Rhode Island, a statewide consortium that works closely with Health Care Without Harm.

He is the author of No Safe Place: Toxic Waste, Leukemia, and Community Action, and Toxic Exposures: Contested Illnesses and the Environmental Health Movement. His newest book is aco-edited collection, Contested Illnesses: Citizens, Science and Health Social Movements. His current research includes household exposure to chemicals, chemical policy and regulation, ethics of reporting data to study participants, and health social movements.
