My PhD research at Northeastern University is focused on studying the properties and kinetics of the magnetostructural phase transformation in thin film forms of FeRh; a model magnetostructural material. More specifically, my research aims to understand (and ultimately control) the impact of extrinsic parameter variation (e.g. strain) on the overall character and kinetics of the transformation. These studies incorporate results obtained from laboratory-based techniques as well as large-scale x-ray and neutron user facilities.

I have currently co-authored 2 refereed articles, published in high-impact international journals, given 7 international conference presentations and co-authored an additional 5 conference presentations. Additionally, I have been selected for several competitive honors and awards most recently:

• The IEEE Magnetics Society student travel grant for the 2013 Intermag/MMM joint conference, Chicago, Illinois (Jan. 14-18, 2013),
• The IEEE Magnetics Society Summer School, New Orleans, Louisiana (May 21-28, 2011) and the 2011
• The 13th National School on Neutron and X-ray Scattering, Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, Illinois and Oak Ridge National, Oak Ridge Tennessee (June 11-25, 2011).

In my free time I love music (particularly heavy metal!), traveling, and traveling to see live music.
