Advising and Program Forms

Program Advising

Advising plays an important part in shaping your graduate studies and your career. Whether the question is about a particular course, or a Program or University policy, or a choice in your career path, communicating with an advisor can save time and ensure that you are headed in the right direction. There are various key contacts available to you to consult:

FACULTY ADVISOR

A member of the faculty can provide valuable advice about courses in the Program, overall curriculum requirements, and career issues. Each student assigned a faculty advisor when she is accepted into MPA PRogram. This assignment is based upon our understanding of your academic interests (after reading your application), the appropriate match with a member of the faculty who has similar interests, and the availability of specific faculty members. Students wishing to change academic advisors should first contact the advisor with whom they hope to work.

MPA PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Dr. Thomas J. Vicino is the Director of the MPA Program, Assistant Professor of Political Science, and a core faculty member of the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs. He teaches in the MPA and MURP Programs. In the capacity as Director, he oversees the management and leadership of the Program. He can be consulted on general program issues, policies and regulations, university-level matters, and academic- and professional-related issues.

In addition, Dr. Laurie Dopkins coordinates the online component of the MPA Program. She teaches in the MPA and MURP Programs.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT STAFF

The Program’s administrative support staff are responsible for many aspects of the day-to-day operations of the graduate programs. Louis DaRos oversees issues on admissions and recruitment. Kathie Simmons oversees issues on graduate student services for currently enrolled students. They are available during regular business hours and can be consulted on various administrative issues related to your graduate studies.
