If there’s one thing you can say about the Husky community, it always answers a challenge. Alumnus Mike MacWade, AS’83, challenged 3,500 Husky alumni to make a gift of any size by March 31, 2013. Not only did we meet the goal and receive MacWade’s contribution of $100,000 to the university, Mike was so inspired by Husky Nation that he issued a new challenge, this time for at least 500 Northeastern alumni to make a gift before April 5. Even in this condensed time frame the University community demonstrated its commitment to the growth of this great institution.
In the end, well over 4,000 Huskies made their gift through the challenge, and every dollar will go to fund the meteoric rise of the institution we all love.

Mike MacWade is a 1983 graduate of Northeastern with a degree in Speech Communication. MacWade is Head of Relationship Management at Putnam Investments. Mike met his future wife, Lynne, N’83, at Northeastern on move-in day of his freshman year. From the start, MacWade knew the university was the perfect fit.
“I was a small-town kid coming to the big city and it was just amazing. But I was also the first person in my family to go to college,” he recalls. “The financial assistance I received allowed me to take advantage of all that Northeastern has to offer. I felt that if and when I had the opportunity to give back to the university, I would do what I could to make sure students had the same experiences I had.”
“Northeastern is such a wonderful university with so much to offer,” says MacWade. “It put me in a position to succeed, and for that I’ll forever be grateful. It’s amazing how far the university has come since I was a student, and it’s exciting to see Northeastern become such a global education leader.”
