ABSTRACT: The McKay correspondence is now a small industry unto itself. This collection of correspondences and equivalences transcends representation theory, commutative algebra, category theory, and algebraic geometry. I will give an informal introduction to the McKay correspondence from the point of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over fixed rings of group actions. The point will be for the talk to serveas a motivating example for another talk.
