ABSTRACT: Associated
to a real hyperplane arrangement is a semigroup algebra that has
applications to probability (random walks) and algebraic combinatorics
(Solomon's descent algebras). I will survey these connections and
describe the algebraic structure of the algebras. In particular, I will
describe how the geometry of the arrangement is used to show that these
algebras are Koszul and that they only depend on the combinatorics of the arrangement.
