On the Auslander-Buchsbaum --
Type Formulas
ABSTRACT:
We give a unified proof of
the Auslander-Buchsbaum formula, Auslander-Bridger formula, and the
fact that the syzygy modules of a finite module over a commutative
local ring do not have free summands in degrees beyond the codepth of
the module. In addition, we give an interpretation of the above
formulas in terms of relative homological algebra and provide
conditions on relative theories, with relative projectives being a
subclass of modules of G-dimension zero, which guarantee that a
relative A-B formula is true.
