Deformation Quantization and Invariant Distributions on a
Lie Group

ABSTRACT: Deformation quantization is a procedure to construct a noncommutative algebra from a commutative one -- generalizing the so called "Moyal product" in pseudo-differential calculus, seen from a semi-classical point of view. In 1997 Kontsevich gave a general and beautiful solution to the problem of quantization of a Poisson manifold. His method has some interesting applications to harmonic analysis on Lie groups.
