Application Requirements
Transcripts
Applicants must have graduated with a baccalaureate degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or other related discipline, from an accredited four-year college or university prior to matriculation. You must have completed one year of introductory biology and two additional biology electives (Ecology and Genetics are both highly recommended) While exceptions can be made in certain cases based on the strength of the overall application, it is expected that students entering the program have earned a 3.0 minimum undergraduate GPA. Original transcripts of all academic work are required.
Recommendations
Applicants must submit three letters of reference. Referees who can address your qualities as a person working in both a group setting and alone, and under harsh physical conditions are most desired.
GRE Exam
Applicants for admission to the Professional Masters in Marine Biology program must submit general GRE scores. The institution code for Northeastern University is 3682 and the department code for Marine Biology is 30. Submission of the subject GRE score is not necessary.
Interview
While a formal interview is not required, a site visit is highly recommended for students seriously considering admission to the PSM in Marine Biology Program. Visits are best scheduled during the Fall semester prior to the year you intend to matriculate. This allows our faculty to meet you and evaluation your career aspirations, while allowing you to observe our program while in residence at the Marine Science Center in Nahant, MA. Contact the Three Seas office to schedule a visit.
Additional Materials
While a curriculum vitae (resumé) and writing sample are not required for admission, when submitted along with your personal statement they are helpful in allowing our admissions committee to gain a better understanding of your qualifications and experience.
International Applicants
If you are admitted into this program, the Declaration and Certification of Finances (DCF) form must be completed and submitted before you can matriculate into the program.
TOEFL or IELTS Exams
Applicants from non-English speaking countries and/or a non-English baccalaureate institution must attain a TOEFL score of at least 250 on a computer-based test or an IELTS score of 6.5 to be considered for admission. The TOEFL institution code is 3682 and the department code is 30.
