Sandra has been in the Detrich Lab for 25 years at Northeastern University’s main campus and has recently moved along with the lab to the Marine Science Center. After 11 trips to Antarctica, she is still fascinated with the work and involved in many of the Detrich Lab projects investigating cold modification in Antarctic fish. Studies include the loss of the hemoglobin genes from the Antarctic Icefish, evolution of cold adapted proteins, and gene discovery of factors responsible for low bone density in Antarctic Icefish.
