Applicants to the MS Marine Biology program must have earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. While we anticipate that the majority of students will enter the program with a bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, geology, or other related discipline, this is not an absolute requirement.
Given the incremental and progressive nature of our curriculum, baccalaureates who have completed one year of introductory biology and two additional biology electives (genetics and ecology) can succeed in this program. If you are not certain you have the appropriate background, please contact our office to discuss this further.
While a formal interview is not required, due to the intense field-oriented curriculum, complex logistics, and high cost associated with this program we strongly recommend students visit the Marine Science Center in Nahant, preferably during the fall semester when the program is in residence. Contact the Three Seas office to schedule either a visit or phone interview.
We accept students into the MS Marine Biology program for admission in the fall semester. The deadline for priority admission is February 1. Applications received after this date will be reviewed on a rolling admissions basis. Qualified students not admitted due to space limitations will be placed on our waiting list until space becomes available or through the end of June, whichever comes first. Students admitted to the program may not defer admission to the following year.
