1930s

Sad news received: Lawrence I. Templeman, BA’37, died at Willow Towers Assisted Living, in New Rochelle, New York, on November 20, 2006. A longtime resident of Topsfield, Massachusetts, Templeman was born in Canada; his family moved to Saugus, Massachusetts, when he was young. An All-Scholastic football player at Saugus High School, Templeman starred on Northeastern’s first varsity football team and was elected president of his senior class. In 1939, he married Frances Pingree (who died last July), and he became a naturalized citizen in 1941. Templeman worked in the insurance industry for thirty-four years, retiring as the executive vice president and director of Commercial Union Insurance Companies. A scholarship fund in the names of Lawrence and Frances Templeman has been established at the university.
