Edward C. Swift, E’52, of Chester, Connecticut, worked at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft for thirty-five years. After retirement, he stayed active by working with antique furniture (including doing certified appraising) and climbing mountains. “I climbed the 112 listed 4,000-foot peaks in New England and managed to complete the Long Trail in Vermont,” he writes. Swift and his wife restored the 1760 Gideon Hale House, in Glastonbury, before moving to a retirement village in Chester in 2004. Ralph S. Gootner, LI’56, UC’61, of Lake Worth, Florida, retired in 1988 after working for thirty-four years at IBM. He has served as a visiting professor at Florida International University and as director of the South Florida Technology Transfer Center. He and his wife, Pauline, celebrated their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary on August 30, along with son Bruce and daughters Marjorie and Lori. Gootner is a member of the West Palm Beach chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives. Walter D. Pansuk, BA’57, of Needham, Massachusetts, retired from his public accounting practice on December 31, 2007. Henrietta McKee Carter, LA’59, of Los Alamitos, California, sang this summer in Beijing, Tianjin, and Xi’an, China, as part of the Southern California Master Chorale.
