It’s a little-known fact: The Speech-Language and Hearing Center in the Behrakis Center, home to Bouvé College of Health Sciences, offers a full range of audiology services to staff and faculty and their families, alumni, and students—with hearing aids discounted at 10 percent. Services are also available to anyone outside the Northeastern community.
“The audiology clinic is a training ground for graduate students, who are 100 percent supervised by licensed and certified clinicians,” says clinic director Patricia Mauceri. Hearing evaluations are performed on site or may be accepted from another audiologist for hearing-aid fittings.
Here, one patient, Thomas Joyce (seated), receives customized hearing devices, which have been thoroughly tested for optimal audibility by clinic members using state-of-the-art equipment. He’ll also be given an orientation on their use by a student—in this instance, Valerie Duque (left)—and an audiologist supervisor, Maria Vivas.
