Second-floor Ell Hall blaze ruled arson
A smoky fire that broke out on the second floor of Ell Hall in early April has been ruled an arson by officials at the Boston Fire Department.
The blaze, which began in the early-morning hours of Sunday, April 2, was quickly extinguished by Boston firefighters. It caused about $500,000 in damages and forced the temporary relocation of some administrative offices.
No one was injured in the fire.
The blaze occurred near the site of a 1996 Ell Hall fire, which was also suspected to be arson. That blaze destroyed the university's Bacon Memorial Chapel, which was later replaced by the current Sacred Space.
According to James Ferrier, Northeastern's associate director of public safety, the investigation of the fire is ongoing.
