SPRING 2008 - VOL. 33, NO. 3
Commencement 2008

A commitment to progress was the order of the day, as more than 2,200 graduates were bestowed bachelor’s degrees and doctorates of pharmacy during the a.m. half of Northeastern’s 106th spring commencement, held on May 2 at Boston’s TD Banknorth Garden. Christopher Cox, Securities and Exchange Commission chairman, shared some inside information with the assembly: “Imagine your future. It is dazzling, because you have learned how to learn.”
In the afternoon commencement, Sylvia Hurtado addressed the crowd of approximately 1,100 graduate students and adult learners. The professor and director of the Higher Education Research Institute at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Sciences underscored the importance of nonconformism, stressing that independent thinkers lead positive change.
At the School of Law’s ceremony on May 23, Stephen Breyer, U.S. Supreme Court associate justice, spoke to more than 200 graduates, lauding their dedication to public service and encouraging them to stay on that path.
