We’ve all had greatteachers and mentors in our lives—people who have not only helped us learn, but also fostered our growth and shaped who we are today. Empower: The Campaign for Northeastern University was established in part to ensure these remarkable and influential teachers continue to thrive on our campus. Empower—which supports students, faculty, and research innovation—is about people investing in people.

In an era when other universities are retrenching, Northeastern is bucking this trend. In fact, we’ve hired 387 new tenured or tenure-track faculty since 2006—including 55 in academic year 2013–14 alone. Look no further than this magazine’s cover story, “Breaking Through,” to gauge the caliber of our talented professor-researchers.

This tremendous investment in the best and brightest scholars gives us a definitive advantage. Empower campaign supporters, in their quest to back our recruitment and retention of world-class professors, are an integral part of this momentum.

Empower’s focus on faculty is a highly strategic effort. We seek to promote and hire those with expertise in established and emerging fields that align with Northeastern’s education and research enterprise. With this intellectual firepower, we can continue to tackle the most pressing problems facing humankind and foster the world’s next generation of leaders.
