been a partner in D'Innocenzo Cullen & Associates of Andover since
1990. The company conducts seminars on sales, management, and leadership

Dave Gorewitz, E'70, of Burlington, Massachusetts, celebrated
thirty years as plant manager for Longview Fibre, a paper-bag converting
plant in Waltham. "This has truly been a co-op job that has worked
out well," he says.
George D. Schonwald, BA'70, of West Orange, New Jersey, is practicing
law in Parsippany, New Jersey.
Doug Capra, LA'71, MA'93, of Seward, Alaska, retired in 1997
after twenty-four years teaching high school. He has written two books
about Alaskan history and the forewords for two books by artist Rockwell
Kent (18821971), Wilderness: A Journal of Quiet Adventure in Alaska
and Northern Christmas. Since retiring, he has kept busy writing, teaching
college courses, and leading boat tours into Kenai Fjords National Park.
S. Peter Fogg, BA'71, of Blue Ash, Ohio, recently became senior
vice president for service and installation at Mosler, a leading provider
of security systems and equipment.
Robert G. St. Germain, BA'71, of Dedham, Massachusetts, has worked
for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue for sixteen years. He is currently
with the Management Service Bureau, where he helps process amended income-tax
returns and writes tax procedures.
Gary Gurwitz, BA'71, of Worcester, Massachusetts, is chief operating
officer of Mercantile/Image Press, a commercial printing company. The company
recently received a $4.5 million Massachusetts industrial revenue bond
to construct a new printing plant and to purchase two new printing presses.
Walter R. McCowat, BA'71, spent fifteen of the last twenty years
in California but returned to the East Coast two years ago to become vice
president of sales of Sharp Electronics' business products group. He and
his wife, Barbara, and children, Kristen and Geoffrey, live in Ringwood,
New Jersey.
Joseph E. Pelletier Jr., E'71, retired two years ago as a sales
engineer for Macdermid of Waterbury, Connecticut. He lives in Seabrook,
New Hampshire, and winters in Naples, Florida. "Playing lots of golf,"
he writes.
Bill Swanson, E'71, ME'73, and Susan DeColaines, UC'74, have
been involved for the past ten years with renovating a traditional Irish
cottage in County Kerry. "It has been a challenging, exciting project
to bring to fruition," Swanson writes. "The house is prefamine.
It overlooks the sea where Ryan's Daughter was filmed." Swanson is
a vice president at Camp Dresser & McKee. DeColaines is self-employed
as a substance abuse counselor and senior fitness instructor. Together,

Stephen P. Flanagan, E'73, is vice president of engineering for

Alan Kandel, BA'73, of Belle Mead, New Jersey, is director of
insurance products at Standard & Poor's, a division of the McGrawHill
Companies. John W. Keating, E'73, of Arlington, Massachusetts, is a senior
vice president at the environmental engineering firm Camp Dresser &

Monika Kratzmann, UC'73, of Boston, writes, "As a member

Sandra (Mosher) Patterson, N'73, of Severn, Maryland, reports,
"We've added another Husky to our family. My niece, Lisa, started

Edgar C. Seely III, E'73, was promoted to colonel in the Army
Reserves and deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he is a liaison to the
office of the High Representative.
Christine M. Black, LA'74, of Washington, D.C., joined CNN as
a White House correspondent after more than twenty years as a Boston Globe
reporter.
David W. Martin, PAH'74, of Sturbridge, Massachusetts, is the
lead pharmacist at the Fallon Clinic's Central Street site in Worcester.
He oversees the pharmacy and chemotherapy IV staff.
Christopher Moore, LA'74, of New York City, reports that Emmy
Awardwinning television producer Beth Polsen purchased the rights
to his book Santa & Pete: A Novel of Christmas Present and Past, published
by Simon & Schuster in 1998. He is a member of the New York City Landmarks
Preservation Commission and a historian and research coordinator for the
New York Public Library's Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
John Pacitti, LC'74, received a bachelor's degree in professional
aeronautics from Embry-Riddle University and a master's degree in management
from Troy State. He is a retired Army pilot and lives in Pensacola, Florida,
with his wife, Linda, and three children.
Robert A. Penta, Ed'74, of North Reading, Massachusetts, is principal
of the Brackett School in Arlington, which will reopen as a new building
this fall. He is completing his dissertation for a doctorate in education
administration at Boston College.

Robert V. Ward Jr., LA'74, is the new dean of Southern New England
School of Law in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Since 1982, he has been
a professor of law at New England School of Law in Boston. He is also director
of the Charles Hamilton Houston Enrichment Program, serves on the executive
committee of the American Association of Law Schools Section on Academic
Support Programs, and is a member of the faculty of the American Academy
for Judicial Education. He has taught at N.U.'s School of Law, Suffolk
University School of Law, and the University of Idaho College of Law. He
lives in Milton with his wife, Eleanor Jaynes, and has been active as a
Little League coach in the Boston area for twenty years.
Kim Furman, LA'75, has practiced orthopedics in Sarasota, Florida,

Sandra Linton-McDowell, Ed'75, of Randolph, Massachusetts, is
a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher in the Boston public schools. She is
married and has two children, Ashley and Glenn.
Peter C. Paras, CJ'75, was recently promoted to installation
force protection officer at Fort Riley, Kansas. He and his wife, Marilyn,

Rita Shertick, N'76, of Bellflower, California, teaches health
education courses for LifeCam Resources. She recently became a certified
CPR instructor and continues to teach Lamaze and breast-feeding classes.
Thomas J. Wenzel, LA'76, of Auburn, Maine, has received the 1999
American Chemistry Society Division of Analytical Chemistry J. Calvin Giddings
Award for Excellence in Education. He is the Charles A. Dana Professor
of chemistry at Bates College, where he began teaching in 1982. He was
named a Camille and Henry Dreyfus scholar in 1990 and has been awarded
eleven National Science Foundation grants.
Frank Condella, PAH'77, MBA'84, was honored in May at a benefit
dinner of Cancer Care for his achievements in the pharmaceutical industry
and his contributions toward conquering cancer. Condella is vice president
of specialty care for Hoffmann-LaRoche. He lives in Ridgewood, New Jersey,
with his wife, Mary, and daughters, Catherine, Terese, and Anna. Cancer
Care provides care to cancer victims and families in New York, Connecticut,
and New Jersey.
Judith A. Fitzpatrick, N'77, of Takoma Park, Maryland, retired
from the Army Nurse Corps in April.
Mark S. Innocenti, LA'77, was named one of thirty fellows for
Zero to Three's Leaders for the Twenty-First Century program, which aims
to improve the lives of very young children. He is codirector of the Early
Intervention Research Institute and assistant director of the research
evaluation division of the Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah
State University. Zero to Three is a national nonprofit founded more than
twenty years ago by leading pediatricians and child development specialists
to share new knowledge on how children develop in the early years.
Paul P. McDonald, LA'77, of Albany, New York, is director of
real-property services in New York State's Office of Mental Health.
Michael McDonough, CJ'77, enjoyed a very busy graduation season
last spring. On May 8, he received a master's degree in international studies
and his son, Kristopher, received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice,
from Old Dominion University. Eight days later, his son, Antonio, earned
a bachelor's degree in computer science from the College of William and

Richard Hirtle, BA'78, MBA'97, has been named vice president
and treasurer of CGU, the sixteenth-largest insurance group in the country,
with headquarters in Boston. He will oversee the firm's cash management
area, as well as investment accounting, accounts payable, and payroll.
Wendy K. Kanter, Ed'78, of Nashville, Tennessee, is president
of Mind/Body, which provides licensed massage therapy to the health-care
industry and business community. She notes she has "recovered brilliantly
from metastatic breast-to-bone cancer."
Natalma M. McKnew, L'78, of Greenville, South Carolina, writes,
"Still litigating and in my fifth year as the managing director of
a fifty-lawyer firm in South Carolina. My daughter starts college in September.
I'm celebrating with a trip to Ireland!"
Richard J. O'Hara, UC'78, of East Orleans, Massachusetts, is
a retired chief of police and now a church youth group director.
Bill Weedon, E'78, was recently appointed product line manager
responsible for specialty metals and chemicals at the Arconium of Providence,
Rhode Island, a refiner and manufacturer of indium-based products.
Mary Jane Hsu Yue, MPH'78, of Edina, Minnesota, is on the staff
in the Division of Medical Technology at the University of Minnesota Medical
School.
Paul M. Benham, ME'79, of Dover, New Hampshire, is recovering
from stomach surgery and says he hopes to resume further graduate education
this fall.
Edward Bergin, LA'79, is an administrative librarian for cataloging
at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. "We had a 100-year
flood the second week I was here," he writes. "The next month
we had to undergo a rigorous retention recertification process." Over
a thirty-year career, Bergin has worked at libraries at MIT, Harvard, Brandeis,
the International Monetary Fund, the Library of Congress, and Rice University.
Ron Maranian, BA'79, and his wife, Anastasia, have three sons,
Michael, Stephen, and Thomas. Maranian is a program manager with the Massachusetts
Division of Employment and Training's economic research department. He

Nancy McDermott, MS'79, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, was recently
named senior vice president of Ocean Spray Cranberries' in-home unit, where
she will be responsible for sales and marketing of all Ocean Spray cranberry
and grapefruit products to grocery, drug, mass merchandise, and club stores.
She and her husband, Bob O'Keefe, have two sons.
Victoria C. Middleton, BA'79, of Dorchester, received a master's
degree in education from Cambridge College and is now an adjunct professor
of accounting at Quincy College.
Larry Naritelli, BA'79, was recently named corporate controller
of Photomatrix, a manufacturer of high-speed document scanners, printed
circuit boards, wire and cable, metal stamping, and precision machining,
in Carlsbad, California. "My co-op experience at N.U. prepared me
well for all of the challenges of the real world," he writes. "N.U.
has helped make me very successful."
Paul Vollmar, E'79, of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, writes, "Congratulations
on twenty years of post-college." He notes he's "still a regular
