Wilson Flight,
Ed'70, and Lee Flight, LA'70, of Concord, Massachusetts, say they are looking forward to another exciting summer as owners and managers of Hostelling International-Searsport, the Penebscot Bay Hostel. Located on Route 1 on the coast of Maine, the facility was named one of the top fifteen favorite U.S. hostels by Hostels U.S.A.

Brian S. Harlow, BA'70, MJ'79, of Portland, Maine, married Jean Straupenieks on July 31, 1997.

David E. Lamore, PAH'70, of Framingham, Massachusetts, was awarded a 1998 Stellar Performance Award in recognition of his exemplary service to the community as a consumer advocate for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health Case Management at Westborough State Hospital. He is a consultant pharmacist.

Richard F. Lusis, BA'70, of Berkley, Michigan, marked his thirtieth year at Ford Motor Company on June 14, 1998. He is the quality control section supervisor at Ford's facility in Sterling Heights.

Norman J. Belliveau, BA'71, of Newton, Massachusetts, is senior managing director of the Boston region for American Express Tax and Business Services. He specializes in providing construction consulting services to colleges and hospitals across the country. Belliveau is a managing partner of Ziner, Kennedy & Lehan, a certified public accounting firm in Boston. He volunteers his time as president of Community Work Services, the nation's oldest vocational rehabilitation organization, and is on the board of directors of the Massachusetts Society of CPAs.

Richard A. Buckler, BA'71, of Center Harbor, New Hampshire, reports that his son, Bob, is a freshman at N.U.'s College of Business Administration and is trying out for the baseball team.

Barbara A. Holbrook, BB'71, is principal of the Allen Arena School in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. She received a certificate of advanced graduate study from Bridgewater State College.

Janice Vahl Mazza, LA'71, is vice president and fund-raiser for the Princeton (New Jersey) Opera. She adapts, produces, and performs in a touring concert series in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. She and her husband, Jerry, and son, Jordan, live in Belle Mead, New Jersey.

Douglas M. McCracken, MA'71, of Wellesley, Massachusetts, will assume the position of chairman of the board of Deloitte & Touche on May 31. He will continue in his role as managing director­Americas of Deloitte Consulting. McCracken joined Deloitte Consulting in Detroit in 1977. He and his wife, Naomi, have a son, Doug, and a daughter, Kristi, both of whom are in college.

Sheri Baron, LA'72, MEd'74, MBA'85, is a speech and language pathologist at New England Pediatric Care, a nursing home and school for medically fragile children. Baron formerly worked on the staff of Massachusetts state senator Robert Havern of Arlington. She and her husband, Tom, will celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary this spring. Their daughter, Rachel, is a freshman at Northeastern, and lives in Smith Hall, across the street from the dorm in which her mother lived as a freshman.

Peter A. Gaines, BA'72, has joined Berkshire Life Insurance Company in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, as a general agent-at-large. He will manage the relationship between Berkshire Life and its new distribution channel, Highland Capital Holding. Gaines was formerly regional chief executive officer for the northern New England agency of Sagemark Consulting.

Kenneth W. Gaus, BA'72, of Providence, Rhode Island, is president of the Celestine Financial Group, a Providence firm that specializes in employee benefit packages for nonprofit organizations.

Christopher C. Grieb, E'72, of Charlestown, Rhode Island, was elected to the Moles Construction organization, culminating a thirty-year career. He has retired as president of Parsons Brinckerhoff Constructors and is now a consultant to the firm.

Ronald L. Jantzen, E'72, of Sherborn, Massachusetts, received the Silver Beaver Award at the annual recognition dinner of the Knox Trail Boy Scout Council in Framingham. The national award recognizes outstanding service at the council level. Jantzen is commissioner of the Knox Trail Council's Liberty district and adviser to the Sherborn Explorers Post.

Andrew E. V. Krey, LA'72, of Waterbury, Connecticut, reports that 1973 physical therapy graduates Betsey Levin Adelman, Beth Woodbury Harrington, and Sally Olson Krey celebrated their twenty-fifth reunion at the all-Boston Bouvé Reunion on Cape Cod last June.

Ed Rau Jr., BA'72, of Norwood, Massachusetts, will have his first book, Wytopitloc, Tales of a Deer Hunter, published this spring by Dan River Press of Thomaston, Maine.

Mark Schanfein, E'72, of Los Alamos, New Mexico, leads a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians performing measurements and conducting research of nuclear material in the Los Alamos National Laboratory Plutonium Facility. In February, he traveled to Dimitrovgrad, Russia, to lecture on measurement control and to join a workshop to improve safeguards of Russian nuclear material. Schanfein and his wife have a son, who is a senior in high school, and a daughter, who is a sophomore in high school. Martha N. Seavey, N'72, of Lynnfield, Massachusetts, writes, "I have nothing of any significance to report. I have not achieved any honors or recognitions in my field, have not contributed articles to magazines or journals, have not become a professor of anything, etc., etc., ad nauseam. Instead, I have worked in the health insurance industry for twenty years until downsized out, and now I am working in the admissions department of a rehabilitation hospital in Boston. I married a wonderful man in 1993. We have six cats, no kids, and so far I have managed to enjoy my life without getting burned, stressed, or freaked out. To me, that is the greatest success of all!"

Stephen M. Sonis, BA'72, of Sharon, Massachusetts, heads Stephen M. Sonis Associates, an executive search and recruiting company in Canton, Massachusetts.

Debra Rubin Berger, Ed'73, lives in Newton, Massachusetts, with her husband, Michael, an auctioneer, and sons Andrew (a freshman at Tulane University) and Jeffrey. After working ten years as a writer and two years as an editor, she's now a graduate student in educational research and special education at Lesley College in Cambridge.

Bob Fratto, E'73, of Raleigh, North Carolina, is an associate with the Cadmus Group, an energy and environmental consulting company based in Waltham, Massachusetts. Fratto earned a master's in business administration from Suffolk University. He and his wife, Donna, and their three children (all attending college) have lived in North Carolina since 1993. H. Terrence Slack, BA'73, recently passed the Series 6 and 63 life insurance/accident/health examinations and now can offer investment and insurance services in his public accounting practice, Bears & Slack, in Hyannis, Massachusetts.

Peter P. Graceffa, BA'74, of Quincy, Massachusetts, reports a very successful first year for his real estate company, Cityview Real Estate, in Quincy. The company opened in October 1997 and now employs twelve brokers. He and his wife, Susan, have two children, Maria and Tommy.

Marshall Menachem, E'74, lives in Framingham, Massachusetts, with his wife, Margie, and their sons, Michael and Jesse. Menachem is a partner and vice president of sales and engineering for Purecoast International of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Belmont, Massachusetts, a firm that provides aircraft engine and microwave products with nickle-boron, gold, and silver coatings.

Frank P. Statkus, LC'74, is a project manager for Raytheon Systems, Naval and Maritime Systems in Sudbury, Massachusetts. He and his wife, Patricia, live in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, with their two daughters and son.

Brian A. Williams, BA'74, MBA'80, of Hingham, Massachusetts, is an incorporator and director of a newly chartered commercial bank, Horizon Bank and Trust Company, in Braintree, Massachusetts.

Howard R. Appel, BA'75, of Lake Mary, Florida, has been appointed account representative at Richard Rita Staffing of Orlando. He has been married twenty-one years and has two teenagers. Robert W. Blouin, BA'75, of Irvine, California, retired from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation after twenty-five years. He began his career as a co-op student and reached the senior executive level as regional manager of the FDIC office in Irvine, California.

Fernando M. Faria, E'75, of Westford, Massachusetts, has been promoted to director, Thaad and Missile Sensor Programs, at Lockheed Martin.

Robert A. Gracilieri, E'75, ME'82, is the new president and chief executive officer of Shooshanian Engineering Associates of Boston. He joined the company as president in 1997 after twenty-four years in private industry with Charles River Laboratories, Polaroid, and some consulting companies.

Louis J. Rogers, LA'75, is a partner in the Richmond, Virginia, law firm Hirschler, Fleischer, Weinberg, Cos & Allen, and has completed his second year as a lecturer at the University of Virginia Law School, where he teaches real estate transactions and finance. David Rutter, BA'75, has been promoted to business unit vice president at Romac International, a publicly traded specialty staffing firm with eighty offices throughout the country. Rutter joined the firm in 1985 as a recruiter specializing in the placement of finance and accounting professionals in the greater Boston area. He is now responsible for managing the largest permanent placement office within Romac, as well as one of the largest firms in the Boston area.

Curtis L. Andrews, P'76, of New York City, heads the marketing department of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Korea Limited, in Seoul.

Steven L. Bernstein, ME'76, of Stoughton, Massachusetts, has been promoted to vice president of Daylor Consulting Group, in Braintree.

Marjorie D. Mitlin, BB'76, of Sharon, Massachusetts, is an adjustment counselor at North Attleboro High School and has a private practice in Sharon. She earned a master's degree in social work from Simmons College.

Terri Orr, MEd'76, of Waltham, Massachusetts, writes, "My master's degree in education at Northeastern has served me well in a successful career in student services. After roles at Brandeis and Tufts, I am now in my nineteenth year at Harvard Medical School. My current role is associate dean for admissions and student services."

Peter L. Carnes, UC'77, left his position as police chief in Wenham, Massachusetts, and is now chief of the Yarmouth Police Department on Cape Cod, where he lives.

Jeffrey D. Coons Sr., CJ'77, is a patrol officer with the South Kingston (Rhode Island) Police Department and a major in the Rhode Island Army National Guard. He attends graduate school at Salve Regina University and hopes to earn a master's degree in administration of justice, in December. Marilyn Cowan, N'77, received a master's degree in primary health-care nursing from Simmons College and is seeking a position as a certified pediatric nurse practitioner in adolescent health. Bud Greenberg, AS'77, of Rockville, Maryland, is beginning his seventh year as a contractor in support of Army staff at the Pentagon. He writes, "I want to say hello to all old Husky water polo players. I was team cocaptain in the 1975­76 season. We did so well, we disbanded the following year."

Bill Nichols, CJ'77, works in sales for Universal Press/UP Graphics of Westwood and Providence, Rhode Island. He was formerly a U.S. Customs agent in Boston. Paul T. Proly, CJ'77, of Palm Harbor, Florida, is general sales manager of Clear Channel Sports. He and his wife, Janet, have a daughter, Katy, and a son, Alex, and were expecting their third child in April.

Roslyn Vexler Uzupis, Ed'77, of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, has spent twenty-two years as a secondary school English teacher. She has two children.

Todd C. Foster, BA'78, of Hamden, Connecticut, is senior pastor of Church on the Rock in New Haven. His wife, Leslie, is copastor. Their elder daughter, Erica, is a freshman at Brown University, and their other daughter, Stefanie, is a junior at Choate Rosemary Hall.

Nelson Friedman, BA'78, a realtor with Dyson and Dyson in Del Mar, California, was recently elected to the board of directors of the Del Mar Chamber of Commerce. Philip A. O'Connell, UC'78, of Hopedale, Massachusetts, is an account executive with AMS Imaging, which specializes in providing integrated information and imaging management systems and solutions. The company is in Warwick, Rhode Island.

Stephanie Conrad O'Sullivan, LA'78, notes that she and her husband, Tom, moved from Michigan to Cambridge, Massachusetts, late in 1998. She is a senior quality assurance associate for Alkermes in Cambridge.

Howard J. Turoff, BA'78, writes, "In 1992, my girlfriend (now wife) Lori and I competed in the Ironman Canada Triathlon. The following summer we were looking for a bike vacation in Europe that would challenge us. We found that most commercial tours catered to casual riders and that there were very few options for avid cyclists. After some research, we founded La Corsa Tours. The company has been praised in cycling magazines, such as VeloNews, Cycle California, and Bicycle U.S.A. The March 1997 issue of Bicycling Magazine called La Corsa's Italian Giro one of five 'not-to-be-missed classics.' Lori and I are very proud of what we've accomplished."

Arlene M. Velleman, Ed'78, MEd'82, of Boston, leads workshops in the New England area and in Texas on using drama skills and activities to develop language and communication skills. The courses are designed for elementary and middle-school teachers, speech pathologists, and special educators. She also gives workshops on how sign language interpreters can use drama activities to improve their visualization and memory skills. In addition, Velleman works as a special educator in the Waltham public schools and as a performer and storyteller.

R. Kelly Wagner, UC'78, is an adjunct faculty member at St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas. She teaches an undergraduate computer science course in the School of Natural Sciences. "This may be the spur I need to start work on a doctorate," she says.

Howard F. Blaney, UC'79, of Burlington, Massachusetts, is a quality control technician at Gillette in South Boston. He has a grandchild, Niki.

Ellen (Booth) Corey, LA'79, of Livermore, California, is a group leader in the computations department at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

M. Susan Howard, Ed'79, of Charlestown, Massachusetts, will receive a master's degree in mental health counseling from the University of Massachusetts-Boston in June.
