
1970s
Wilson Flight, Ed'70, and Lee Flight, LA'70, have for the past thirteen
summers left their classrooms and headed to Searsport, Maine, to serve
as hosts of the Captain Butman Homestead bed and breakfast. After many
years of repair and renovation, a section of the homestead is now officially
licensed by American Youth Hostels as Hostelling InternationalSearsport,
the Penobscot Bay Hostel. This past summer, the Flights hosted hostellers
from Japan, Taiwan, Australia, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Switzerland,
Germany, Austria, Sweden, and Russia, as well as the United States and
Canada. Wilson, a past recipient of Northeastern's Outstanding Alumni Award,
says he uses the hostel in the off-season as a base for classroom field
trips to Acadia National Park.
Wayne P. Eadie, BA'72, of Goldens Bridge, New York, is advertising
research and development director at Reader's Digest. Barbara N. (Indeck)
Cowen, E'73, is an information systems training and telecommunications
specialist at MAIAlper, a food broker in Framingham, Massachusetts.
She and her husband live in Milford. "In addition to my day job,"
she writes, "I give private computer lessons and do some desktop publishing
and technical writing." Cowen's son is a sophomore at Skidmore College
in Saratoga Springs, New York, and her daughter and son-in-law live on

Andrea Garland Douglas, Ed'73, of Bow, New Hampshire, is director
of the Dunbarton Public Library. John Hahesy, LA'73, has joined the Minahan
Companies in Boston as director of issues management and media relations
after serving several years as vice president of public relations and governmental
relations at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He and his wife, Margaret, and

Michael E. Watson, BA'73, is vice president of the commercial
loan department at South Shore Co-operative Bank in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
Patrick Beatrice, E'74, of Framingham, Massachusetts, is business development
manager for Hodess Building Company in North Attleboro.
Wilbert R. Jenkins, E'75, of Garland, Texas, has a few questions:
What private university has the largest enrollment? Which university founded
cooperative education? And what university has the largest enrollment of
ROTC cadets outside of a military academy? He says that, as a student,
he understood the answer to each of these questions was Northeastern. "What

Charles T. Ziakas, LA'75, of Succasunna, New Jersey, is general
manager of field operations for Novartis Pharmaceuticals.
Frank Fabrico, BA'76, reports the sale of his company, Lumart,
of Brooklyn, New York, to Amscan, the party goods industry leader. He will
join Amscan as senior category manager. Fabrico was represented in negotiations
by his friend and former roommate, Bill Romano, LA'75, of Ledgewood,
New Jersey.
Thomas E. Moore, MBA'76, has been elected a trustee of the Massachusetts
General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. Moore is the dean of
the F. W. Olin Graduate School of Business and the School of Executive
Education at Babson College. He formerly was a vice president with Arthur
D. Little, the international consulting firm.
Steven Koorse, ME'77, is a partner in the environmental practice
of the international law firm Hunton & Williams. Prior to that, he
worked eight years at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Koorse,
his wife, and three children live in Richmond, Virginia. He is a member
of the Virginia and Massachusetts bars and practices regularly in both
commonwealths.
Walter C. White, CJ'77, of Milton, Massachusetts, is director
of inspectional services for the city of Quincy, Massachusetts.
Bruce E. Jones, CJ'78, of Chester, New York, received a master's
degree in police training from the New York State Division for Criminal
Justice Services and was assigned to the New York Zone Four Police Academy,
where he teaches constitutional and criminal procedures law. Jones, who
has been a police officer for sixteen years, is a member of the board of
trustees of the New York State Union of Police Associations and is an adviser
to the International Union of Police Associations in Washington, D.C. "Without
my education and career prep from the College of Criminal Justice at N.U.,"
he writes, "I would not be in the position today of giving back to
my students what was given to me at Northeastern." Jones and his wife,
Margaret, are avid golfers. In September, they competed in the DuPont World
Amateur Handicap Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Ruth S. Shuman, LA'78, of Newton, Massachusetts, has been appointed
dean for institutional advancement at Lasell College in Newton. She is
responsible for alumni relations, development, and public relations.
Charles A. Roberts, BA'79, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, reports
that Byfleet Corporation, where he was a vice president, has undergone
an asset purchase by Lumitron, a wholesale distributor of copier components.
He is the chief executive officer and sole stockholder in the new company.
