1970s

Wilson Flight
, Ed'70, and Lee Flight, LA'70, have for the past thirteen summers left their classrooms and headed to Searsport, Maine, to serve as hosts of the Captain Butman Homestead bed and breakfast. After many years of repair and renovation, a section of the homestead is now officially licensed by American Youth Hostels as Hostelling InternationalSearsport, the Penobscot Bay Hostel. This past summer, the Flights hosted hostellers from Japan, Taiwan, Australia, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Sweden, and Russia, as well as the United States and Canada. Wilson, a past recipient of Northeastern's Outstanding Alumni Award, says he uses the hostel in the off-season as a base for classroom field trips to Acadia National Park.

Wilbert R. Jenkins, E'75, of Garland, Texas, has a few questions: What private university has the largest enrollment? Which university founded cooperative education? And what university has the largest enrollment of ROTC cadets outside of a military academy? He says that, as a student, he understood the answer to each of these questions was Northeastern. "What is the real story?" he asks. Send him e-mail to <Wilbert_Jenkins@msn.com>.

Jones, who has been a police officer for sixteen years, is a member of the board of trustees of the New York State Union of Police Associations and is an adviser to the International Union of Police Associations in Washington, D.C. "Without my education and career prep from the College of Criminal Justice at N.U.," he writes, "I would not be in the position today of giving back to my students what was given to me at Northeastern." Jones and his wife, Margaret, are avid golfers. In September, they competed in the DuPont World Amateur Handicap Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
