It Takes the Cake
If the cake on the cover of this issue looks somehow
familiar, then you're a longtime reader. The January 1978 edition of an
earlier university magazine, Northeastern Today, shows former president
Carl Ell celebrating his 90th birthday. Ell, who joined the school as a
faculty member in 1910-when it was still the YMCA's Co-operative School
of Engineering-and stayed for nearly five decades, retiring in 1959, was
a prominent member of the multitude who created Northeastern, shaped it,
and made it what it is today. Now, on the university's 100th birthday,
this special issue of Northeastern University Alumni Magazine celebrates all those
who have made the next 100 years possible. We look forward to the 200th
anniversary cake.
