Alumni Association Views

By Deborah McConchie

I realize that by the time you get this, it will be spring. What an activity-filled year it has been! Faculty and student accomplishments continue to impress; the grounds and buildings at the Boston campus are more beautiful each year; guest lecturers have included former Soviet president Gorbachev and Nobel Peace Prizewinner Oscar Arias; and on it goes. In this issue, I bring you a few updates and reminders.

Alumni Membership Card

As I mentioned in my January column, your Alumni Association Membership Card is enclosed in this issue of the magazine. Those of you who receive only one copy of the magazine addressed to two alumni will find only one membership card. An additional card will be sent out in the near future. Graduates living abroad will also receive their cards in a future mailing.

Come see the campus

I encourage those of you who have not visited campus in recent years to do so. The impressive changes-new buildings, research labs, and, yes, the flower beds-are a pleasure to see. Words and photographs can't begin to tell you what your university is like today. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by. You'll be very proud of what you see.

Outstanding Alumni Awards

It's not too late to nominate someone for the Northeastern Outstanding Alumni Award. Each year, one graduate is selected from each of the following fields: arts and humanities, health sciences, business and industry, public service, education, and science and technology. If you know someone who is deserving of this very special recognition, please pass his or her name on to me at 346 Richards Hall, Boston, MA 02115. Nominations must be received no later than April 1.

Northeastern Choral Society Alumni

Ed Desmond, an N.U. library assistant, invites former members of the Choral Society to come back and sing with the group during a special centennial performance with the New England Conservatory Orchestra on May 17 in Jordan Hall. They'll be performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, along with an original piece by local composer Robert Starer. Rehearsals begin April 1 at 5:45 p.m. in 354 Ryder. Call the music department at 617-373-2440.

Deborah B. McConchie, BA'75, is president of the Alumni Association.
