Stuff of life: Complex, chaotic, and delicate, this is the riverine network formed by a rabbit placenta. The arteries have been injected with bright red latex to represent oxygen-rich blood; the veins, carriers of blue, oxygen-poor blood, have been injected with deep blue latex. Displayed in a biology lab in Mugar Hall for study by anatomy students, the colors vividly demonstrate blood's flow and exchange.
