Ears looking at you: It seems to glare like a hornet's eye, but this intricate moiré is actually a robot's ear. Twenty-four such disks surround the top of the robot, a squat contraption bearing a rough resemblance to R2D2, which resides in the robotics and vision systems lab in the Egan Center, run by electrical and computer engineering professor Jill Crisman. Dubbed an ultrasonic ranger, the robot uses sonar as a navigational guide.
