Asian center opens

Northeastern has established a new center aimed at enriching the experience of Asian American students and other members of the university community.

Led by Andrew Shen, the Asian American Center provides support, cultural-enrichment opportunities, a social focal point, and assistance to students, faculty, and staff of Asian descent.

The center is also charged with fostering a better understanding and appreciation of Asian American cultures and experiences across the university.

Shen is planning to create a peer mentoring program, a book club focused on Asian American literature, a pan-Asian council to help Asian American campus groups work together, and various Asian American affinity groups.

He's also working with Alumni Relations to establish an Asian American alumni group, with the hope that alumni will serve as mentors to students, offer networking advice, and suggest ways to improve campus life for students.
