Wiring all alumni: Grads get new online boost

If you haven't checked out the alumni pages on Northeastern's website recently, now's the time.

The university recently revamped its online offerings, providing new and enhanced ways for alumni to connect with one another, as well as stay in touch with Northeastern.

Services include online class notes, message boards, personal profiles, an events calendar with online registration, and e-mail forwarding.

Officials believe a key step in jump-starting online interactions is for alumni to start posting profiles that include photos.

"Profiles facilitate people reaching out to one another," says Alyssa Meritt, electronic communications manager.

Meritt also notes that e-mail forwarding accounts may be particularly useful for recent graduates, whose student e-mail accounts expire six months after commencement.

In addition, a new feature of the events calendar—online registration—will make it easier for alumni to register and pay for tickets. "This will be helpful for popular, large-scale events, like the Red Sox?Huskies spring training game in Florida," Meritt says.
