Israelis, Palestinians discuss media coverage

A three-week seminar held at Northeastern for a group of Israeli and Palestinian students and journalists was "amazing," says associate journalism professor and Jewish Studies program director James Ross, the event's organizer.

From late January into February, seminar participants examined the media's portrayal of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the peace process, and evaluated the coverage's fairness, balance, and accuracy.

The seminar featured guest speakers from the American and Middle Eastern press, as well as Northeastern faculty, who worked with attendees on group projects aimed at fostering understanding, empathy, and a shared sense of journalistic responsibility in the region.

"I think, if nothing else, we've started on the road to building a kind of community of journalists," Ross says.
