“Building and preserving a civilized society is a continual process,” President Freeland reminded graduates at Northeastern’s fall commencement exercises, held the evening of September 2 at Matthews Arena.

The 1,140 graduates, representing all academic units at the university, also heard from keynoter Jackie Jenkins-Scott, president of Wheelock College.

“Discover your passion,” Jenkins-Scott urged her audience. “Continue to learn. And don’t rely on luck. Luck, as we all know, is not a business plan.”
