Paul A. Beecy, AP90, of Melrose, Massachusetts, has been promoted to partner in the Boston office of Grant Thornton, a global accounting, tax, and business advisory firm. He has been a tax senior manager at Grant Thornton since 2001.
Bradley Desmarais, PA90, of Brookline, Massachusetts, is the chief financial officer at Kurzweil Educational Systems, which specializes in reading technology for those with visual or learning disabilities. He came to Kurzweil from Sound Vision, where he was vice president of finance.
William Miller, L90, of Washington, D.C., is a counsel in the environmental practice group of Collier Shannon Scott. Walter Sikora, E90, of Attleboro, Massachusetts, is a vice president of vulnerability services and support at Verano, a provider of cyber-security software.
David Yucius, BA90, and his wife, Stephanie, celebrated the birth of their first child, Riley Adaire, this year. The family lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Im president of an investment management company down here, and things are going well, writes Yucius. Life is good in Atlanta. I went skydiving recently, which tops more than a couple fun activities and trips over the past couple of years.
John Bourantas, AS92, of Annapolis, Maryland, is the news editor of the Washington Times. He joined the newspaper in 2001 as assistant news editor and was named deputy news editor in January.
Andy Drohen, AS92, of Granville, Massachusetts, was the winner of the Massachusetts Amateur Golf Championship held in July at the Country Club in Brookline. Drohen, who used to caddie at the club when he was an NU student, sank a twelve-foot par putt on the thirty-sixth hole to win the match.
David L. Finn, MS92, PHD95, of Terre Haute, Indiana, in August received a George Polya Award at the Summer MathFest in Boulder, Colorado. The award is presented by the Mathematical Association of America for articles that appear in the College Mathematics Journal. Finns article was entitled Can a Bicycle Create a Unicycle Track? He is a mathematics professor at Rosehall Institute of Technology.
Mike Brodsky and Betsy (Sheinhalt) Brodsky, both BA93, of Danvers, Massachusetts, celebrated the birth of their second daughter, Jordan Allison, on May 29, in Boston. Morgan Elissa is their firstborn.
Doug Dalrymple, CJ93, of Baltimore, became the sole owner of Crown Security System in the Baltimore/Washington area in January. His company has over 200 full-time security personnel. Byron Hurt, AS93, of Central Islip, New York, previewed two of his documentary films in July at Northeastern. I Am a Man, which explores black masculinity in American culture, was part of an evening called Black Men, Masculinity, and Hip-Hop Culture, sponsored by Color of Film Collaborative and ACT Roxbury Consortium. Hurt, a former Northeastern quarterback, also presented a sneak preview of his newest documentary, Beyond Beats and Rhymes, which examines sexism, violence, and homophobia in rap music and hip-hop culture.

Alexi Maravel, AS93, his wife, Karen, and their daughter, Molly, have moved from Los Angeles to Novato, California, in the Bay Area. He is a senior financial writer with Capital Guardian Trust. Yes, even on California freeways, the Husky stickers on my car have been noticed by fellow alums, he writes.
Michael Ferreira, AS95, and Annie Clark Ferreira, AS97, celebrated the birth of their daughter, Isabelle Alyce, on June 10. Their first child, Matthew Allen, was born on February 10, 2001. The family lives in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
Krista M. Larsen, CJ95, of Winchester, Massachusetts, is a graduate of Suffolk University Law School and a public defender at district courts in Chelsea and Dorchester. In addition, shes a partner in a two-person law firm in Charlestown.
Mike Stein, E95, of Danvers, Massachusetts, is a principal consulting engineer at Paradigm Works, in Andover. He works on ASIC and FPGA design, synthesis, and static-time analysis.
Adam Zand, GB95, MBA00, of Arlington, Massachusetts, works at Topaz Partners, in Malden. His letter regarding his NU business ethics courses was printed in the July/August 2003 issue of Ethix.
David Estrada, CJ96, L01, of West Roxbury, Massachusetts, has been paralyzed since June 28, 1995, when he was struck by a car. Estrada has since funneled his energy into wheelchair marathons, completing eleven, including four in Boston. He serves as a board member of the National Spinal Cord Injury Associations Greater Boston Chapter and is a peer mentor for those with new injuries. Most recently, he is running in this months Boston election for a councilor-at-large position.
Chirag Shah, L96, of North Hollywood, California, is a member of the board of directors of East West Players, based in Los Angeles and called the nations preeminent Asian American theater troupe by the New York Times. He also serves as pro bono labor and employment counsel to the troupe. Shah is an associate with Schwartz, Steinsapir, Dohrmann & Sommers, focusing on ERISA and employee benefits. He is also active in a number of professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles County, and the South Asian Bar Association of Southern California.
Zhanna Drogobetsky, BA97, of Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, is the next generation of her family to write a success story. Her parents, Irina and Arkady, came to the United States from the Soviet Union in 1986, along with Zhanna and her sister, Yana. The family that got their first pieces of furniture out of trash heaps in Brooklyn now owns three upscale furniture stores in the Boston area: Italian Design, Italian Interiors, and Bambini. Drogobetsky oversees Italian Design in Brookline.
James K. Murphy, BA98, of Reading, Massachusetts, is the new head football coach at Merrimack College. Murphy, a former quarterback and all-time leading passer who set thirty-four records at Northeastern, is Merrimacks third head coach. Last fall, Murphy was the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Bentley College, in Waltham.
Karen Surman Paley, PHD98, of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, is an assistant professor of English at Rhode Island College. She has published I-Writing: The Politics and Practice of Teaching First-Person Writing, which addresses the controversies of assigning autobiographical writing to students.
Robert Antonellis, MA99, of Sterling, Virginia, and his wife, Julie, celebrated the birth of their first child, Benjamin Theodore, on June 22, in Fairfax. Paul J. Cancelliere, MBA99, of Wakefield, Massachusetts, retired in September after twenty-two years in the Army. A major when he retired, Cancelliere was an assistant professor of military science at the Boston University Department of Military Science, United States Army Reserve Officers Training Corps.
