Richard L. Bready, AP66, of Providence, Rhode Island, is a member of the board of trustees at Saint Anselm College, in Manchester, New Hampshire. He is the chairman and chief executive officer of Nortek, a manufacturer and distributor of building products, and has served on the board of trustees of Roger Williams University.
George W. Chamillard, BA66, MBA70, of Wellesley, Massachusetts, chairs the board of directors of Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI). He has been a member of the SEMI board of directors since 1998. Chamillard is the chairman and chief executive officer of Teradyne.
Bob Ryan, LA66, of Quincy, Massachusetts, has retired as a project leader from Childrens Hospital and from Stone & Webster Engineering, both in Boston. Ryan is a member of the American Meteorological Society, which presented him with the AMS Seal of Approval for Excellence in Weathercasting. An original staff member of radio station WNEU 56 KC at Northeastern, Ryan reports that several original staffers are planning a forty-fifth reunion in 2004 and asks those interested to check with the Alumni Association for more details.
Gerard F. Conklin, E67, of North Springfield, Vermont, is a member of the board of directors of Vermont Public Television. He is the president and chief executive officer at Dufresne-Henry, a consulting firm that provides engineering, planning, landscape architecture, and environmental sciences services. A registered professional engineer, Conklin has been president of the company since 1985.
Michael H. Akillian, LA68, of Bedford, Massachusetts, is a senior vice president with Maguire Associates, a market research and consulting company that specializes in higher education. Akillian has also held positions as senior vice president of Benes Brand Imaging, in Lexington; vice president of corporate marketing at Spotfire, in Cambridge; and senior vice president of Sametz Blackstone, in Boston.
Stanley Bornstein, ME68, of Ipswich, Massachusetts, retired in December 2002 after six years as director of the Department of Public Services and city engineer in Salem. He had previously worked as a facility engineer and county engineer for the sheriffs department of Essex County in Massachusetts. Bornstein holds active membership in the National Society of Professional Engineers, the New England Water Environment Association, and the New England Water Works Association.
John F. McBirney, E68, MBA72, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, is the head of McGrow Consulting of Hingham. The company provides counseling to businesses seeking to start franchising. McBirney enjoys running and has completed two Boston Marathons.
Michael Wolf, ME68, MBA76, of New Hope, Pennsylvania, is senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Soitec, which manufactures silicon-on-insulator wafers used in the semiconductor industry.
Vincent Alabiso, LA69, of New York City, is a vice president at Associated Press. In August, he was named director of global business development and photos. He has worked as executive photo editor at AP since 1990, during which time the organization has won nine Pulitzer Prizes.
