Deane F. Tolman, E53, of Raleigh, North Carolina, retired in 1993 as director of the Center for Environmental Systems at the Research Triangle Institute.
Leo J. Cotter, BA55, of Lynn, Massachusetts, says, Im happy to have my grandson, Maxwell Cotter, starting at NU. He graduated from Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut.
Robert L. Fuller, E56, of Reading, Massachusetts, retired from Fay, Spofford, and Thorndike on December 1, 2002.
Margaret DiCanio, LA57, of Swampscott, Massachusetts, has self-published "Memory Fragments from the Armenian Genocide: A Mosaic of a Shared Heritage." The book profiles American and Canadian descendants of the survivors of the Armenian genocide, which primarily occurred during the years 1915 to 1918. Two of the books contributors, Gary Goshgarian and Leon Janikian, teach at Northeastern.
Joseph Doyle, BA57, of Woburn, Massachusetts, writes, I am now a volunteer in the Gerontology Institute at UMassBoston and attend classes there, as well. In my spare time, I volunteer at Minuteman Senior Services in Burlington.
Robert A. Matthews, BA57, of Heathsville, Virginia, says, I look forward to seeing my classmates at our reunion.
Milan W. Lawson, E57, of Montpelier, Vermont, retired from the Vermont Agency of Transportation on June 1, 2002, after forty-five years of engineering. He started working for the Vermont Highway Department on June 18, 1951, as a map draftsman; he later became the departments first geotechnical engineer during construction of the states interstate highway system. For the last six years, he has served as director of a unit developing multimillion-dollar projects and was a member of the agencys executive staff. In 1995, his salting strategy received an award from the John F. Kennedy School of Governments Innovation in American Government Program. The result is a publication, "Smart Salting: A Winter Maintenance Strategy," used by transportation agencies across the country. He says hes enjoying retirement and catching up on his outdoor life and traveling; he also volunteers part time. Friends can e-mail him at <milanlawson@aol.com>.
Bill Beaton, E58, is a new member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He and Diane live in Manchester. Beaton is semiretired after thirty-three years with Sylvania Lighting and six years on the faculty at the Youth Development Center in Manchester. He says hello to all in the chemical engineering class of 1958.
James E. Higgins, LA58, of Huntington Beach, California, retired on December 31, 2000, did consulting work in 2001, and returned to work in 2002. Darn stock market, he says. Whats the rest of LA58 doing? Any members of the Golden Nuggets varsity basketball benchsitters?
