1940s

Philip N. Savage, LA’40, L’46, and his wife, Alyce, of Newton, Massachusetts, enjoyed a busy spring of travel, graduation ceremonies, and reunions. In May, along with daughters Peg and twins Phyllis, BA’74, and Patricia, Ed’74, they went to North Carolina to attend their granddaughter’s graduation from Duke University. The clan was hosted by youngest daughter, Marilyn, mother of the graduate. Then it was off to Charleston, South Carolina, for the forty-second reunion of the 456th bomb group, which fought in World War II. And in June, Phil and Alyce attended the twenty-seventh reunion of the class of 1940 at the John Carver Inn in Plymouth, Massachusetts. At the annual banquet, Steven Calvert, alumni relations director, and Toni Meehan, assistant director for reunions, presented a talk and video on today’s Northeastern. “This led to a comparison of our days and the present,” Phil writes. Last but not least, the couple attended Golden Graduates Day and NU’s centennial commencement at the FleetCenter in Boston. On commencement day, Phil marched in his golden cap and gown with the other golden grads, who were later treated to a luncheon at Anthony’s Pier Four restaurant on Boston Harbor.
