Mary Nied Phillips, EDD’80, of Waco, Texas, teaches environmental education at the Lake Waco Montessori Magnet School, where she is also an instructor of the gifted and talented. She was recently selected as a participant in an eight-week teacher research institute sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Southwest Texas State University. Phillips is also becoming well known for her work on environmental education and science-related research, with two articles to be published this spring in the National Science Teachers Association’s Science and Children and Gifted Child Today.

Joel Russo, BA’80, of Long Island, New York, and his wife, Carla, have three children: Robert and twin sisters Sofia and Arielle. Russo is the Northeast regional sales manager for Valleylab/Tyco Healthcare, manufacturers of surgical equipment. He says he’d like to hear from his old classmates from Speare Hall. Paul A. Christian, E’81, was appointed Boston Fire Commissioner on November 9 by Mayor Thomas Menino. Christian joined the Boston Fire Department in 1968 and served in all ranks. He had worked as chief since March 2000.

Steven E. Grote, BA’81, of Hudson, Massachusetts, left Raytheon Company after nineteen years and has opened a law practice. “Ever since I was at NU, I was always interested in the law,” he writes. “I guess Professors Scioletti and Fiumara piqued my interest. It took me fourteen years to do something about it.” He began studies at Massachusetts School of Law in 1995 while still working full-time at Raytheon during the day. He graduated in June 1999 and passed the Massachusetts bar shortly after: “It’s not something I would recommend unless you really have a strong desire to practice law and a very understanding wife.” Grote’s new office is in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Bruce Kilgallon, CJ’81, of Pembroke, Massachusetts, and his fifteen-year-old daughter, Katelin, participated in the Appalachia Service Project last summer. The program is a national home-repair ministry that provides services to impoverished residents of the Appalachian region. From June 30 to July 8, father and daughter helped repair two homes in Tazewell County, Virginia.

Maria S. Judge, MBA’82, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, has been named an administrative officer at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. She had been associate dean for management and finance, assistant dean for finance and administration, and budget and fiscal officer at Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Prior to that, she served as the manager for the department of molecular biology and microbiology at Tufts University’s School of Medicine. She has served on the boards of the Massachusetts Association of Women in Education and of Physicians for Human Rights.

Bob LeDonne
and Mary (Hellpap) LeDonne, both PAH’82, of Middleboro, Massachusetts, will be celebrating their twentieth wedding anniversary in August. “We have two daughters, Emily and Sarah, neither of whom shows any interest in becoming a pharmacist,” they write. Martha Ritz, PAH’82, of Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, is a senior clinical research assistant in oncology at Sanofi-Synthelabo, near Philadelphia. She received a master’s degree in toxicology from the State University of New York and a master’s degree in regulatory affairs from Temple University. “I’d love to hear from old classmates Flash, Knapper, Beth and Kurt, Marta and Pete, Sydney, Mark, and the rest of the gang,” she writes. Robert J. Shepherd, MA’83, of Arlington, Virginia, completed work in December toward his doctorate in cultural studies at George Mason University in Fairfax. “I returned to school in 1996 after having spent the better part of a decade working and living in China, Nepal, Indonesia, and Taiwan,” he writes. “Currently, I am an adjunct instructor at George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College. Thomas R. Stiling, BA’83, is the president of Curl Corporation in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Curl is a software infrastructure company for the development and delivery of content in a web-based environment.

Ron Lawson, E’84, his wife, Monica Hurley Lawson, and children, Trevor and Corinne, live in North Easton, Massachusetts. The couple has been married fifteen years. He is a professional engineer with Parsons Brinckerhoff of Boston and designed utilities for the Big Dig. He’s also secretary of the Easton Wastewater Management Study Committee, a die-hard Patriots and Red Sox fan, and an avid fly-fishing fan.

Gregg LeBlanc, BA’84, of Sherwood, Oregon, is the director of marketing, branding, and public relations for McCormick & Schmick’s restaurant group. “While our headquarters are based in Portland, Oregon, allowing my family to remain in the area we love, my travels should be able to bring me back to Boston to see our two newer units,” he writes. He and his wife, Patty (Schoonmaker) LeBlanc, BB’88, have three daughters, Theresa, Danielle,

Thomas M. Reilly, MA’84, of Millbury, Massachusetts, and his wife, Judith, have been married for sixteen years. They live with their daughters, Sarah and Diana. He works as an assistant vice president with State Street Corporation, serves as chair of the Millbury Public Library board of trustees, and is a part-time reporter for the Millbury-Sutton Chronicle.

Jayne Costa, AS’85, of Andover, Maine, is a lieutenant in the Navy. She was mobilized to active duty on September 11 as part of Operation Noble Eagle and now serves on the USS Constitution in the Charlestown Navy Yard.

Robert Croce, AS’85, is the group publisher for HCPro, a provider of training for health-care professionals. He lives in his old hometown, West Peabody, Massachusetts, with wife Maureen and daughters Erin, eleven, and Ashley, eight.

Trevor Dacres, UC’85, of Sunrise, Florida, earned an MBA in international business from the University of Miami on August 3.

Stephen A. DiTullio, AS’85, of Middleton, Wisconsin, is a managing partner at DeWitt Ross & Stevens, the largest law firm in Madison. He specializes in representing management in labor and employment matters. DiTullio chairs the Community Development Committee for Hospice Care, and is a member of the safety committee for the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association. He holds a master’s degree in international relations and economics from Syracuse University and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin.

Christos Efessiou, UC’85, of Vienna, Virginia, serves as the financial adviser and strategist to the Ministry of Merchant Marines of Greece. He is the CEO of the Efessiou Group in Herndon, Virginia. The ministry oversees the world’s largest fleet of merchant, cargo, and passenger vessels, and the Coast Guard of Greece. “It is an honor to have been asked to serve in this capacity to the ministry,” he says. “This is largely a mission of strategy and team-building with the financial community in the United States and Europe.”

Julie Light Githens, AS’85, of Alexandria, Virginia, has been an assistant vice president for Bessemer Trust Company, in Washington, D.C., for four years. On August 24, she married Thomas Githens.

Lisa Lambert-Dimick, PAH’85, of Manchester, New Hampshire, writes to say hello to all her old friends. She works for a home infusion pharmacy, and reports that her daughter just turned ten years old (“How time passes!”). She says she would love to hear from her pals, at <lmld250@aol.com>.

Tony Adade, UC’86, of Worcester, Massachusetts, has become the associate vice president for administrative and educational technology at the Boston Architectural Center (BAC). In his new job, Adade will work closely with education, student affairs, development, and administrative staffs to assure the BAC’s technology resources are used in a manner consistent with the institution’s strategic mission. Previously, he was IT department chair and network administrator at Woburn’s ITT Technical Institute. Adade is currently working on his doctorate in educational leadership at Johnson and Wales University, in Rhode Island.

Jerry Congdon, MBA’86, of Ipswich, Massachusetts, earned his law degree from the Massachusetts School of Law in Andover. Until February 2001, he was the executive vice president of Wakefield Management, an auto-repair franchise company. He accelerated his law studies, and now says he’s trying to figure out what to do with his MEd in psychological counseling, his MBA, and his JD. “The combination could produce some interesting possibilities,” he writes. “If you have any ideas, let me know.” His e-mail address is <jcongdon46@aol.com>.

Kim (Maizner) Herman, AS’87, and Lynn (Joseph) Damasio, BA’87, send in some updates. The former married Jay Herman on June 2, 2001; Damasio was a pregnant matron of honor at the wedding. The Hermans now live in Centreville, Virginia. Damasio and her husband, William, were married on November 6, 1999, with Herman in attendance. Michael Cahill, BA’88, of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and his wife, Michelle, welcomed a son, Matthew David, on July 19, 2001. He joins a sister, Caitlin, and a brother, Michael. Cahill reports that he has
relocated his law practice to West Bridgewater.

Michael Grimaldi, E’88, sends along a “hello” to White Hall friends of 1986. He lives in Buffalo, New York, and is a sales manager for a company that manufactures ionizing foil for safety products, such as smoke detectors, static control, and airport security components. Robert E. McCarthy, AS’89, of Hubert, North Carolina, is
currently a major in the United States Marine Corps, stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He serves as the commanding officer of the 2D Force Reconnaissance Company.

Thor Mollung,
BA’89, and Karen (Coluntino) Mollung, CJ’89, celebrated the birth of their second child, Kristoffer William, on October 25. He joins a sister, Allyson. Thor is a manager for State Street Corporation in Quincy, Massachusetts. Karen notes she “retired” as a paralegal from a large Boston law firm to raise their family.

Sheryl L. Randazzo, AS’89, married Chris N. Hasbrouck on October 6, in Bridgehampton, New York. She reports the reception “was the party of a lifetime, filled with friends and family, at a barn that had been converted into an artists’ gallery.” The newlyweds honeymooned for two weeks in Costa Rica and Manhattan. They now live in Centerport, New York. Sheryl is partners with brother Ralph in the law firm Randazzo & Randazzo, with offices in Huntington, New York, and Manhattan. The firm focuses its practice on elder law, and estate planning and administration. Husband Chris is a vice president and financial consultant with Salomon Smith Barney in Melville, New York.
