1960s David C. Gardner, LA60, of Oceanside, California, has been granted the rank of professor emeritus at Boston University. He notes that he was the doctoral adviser at BU for former NU president Jack Curry. Frank J. Imbornone, BA60, writes, After meeting a lovely widowed lady at a senior center here in Tamarac, Florida, I gave a proposal of marriage, the news of which made three local newspapers and two TV stations. We attended my fortieth reunion last year in June. We married in Mashpee on Cape Cod, honeymooned in Rome and Sicily, and returned from a cruise to the Panama Canal. We attend weekly dances at the new community center here in Tamarac and have won several raffle prizes, including tickets to see Cabaret. We are known here as the fairyland couple by our local mayor. He is now president and CEO of Literacy Partners, Inc., a twenty-seven-year-old nonprofit organization that annually teaches, at no cost, a thousand New York City men and women how to read and write. George Yphantes, LA63, of Newton, Massachusetts, has retired after thirty-five years in insurance sales, twenty-five with Allstate Insurance and ten as a principal with GV&Y (Grich, Vaughn, and Yphantes) Insurance. I plan to enjoy my retirement with family, including two grandsons and another grandchild due any day, he writes. Vacationing on Cape Cod, Florida, and Bermuda are my goals. He celebrated the birth of a grandchild, Zoe, to his daughter, Jennifer, in July 2000. Bob Walshaw, MBA65, of Coweta, Oklahoma, writes, I retired from my general management career in May 2000 and spent a year catching up on all of the things that I had planned to do in retirement. I passed the Oklahoma Real Estate board exams and embarked on a second career in real estate. I am also continuing my speeches and educational programs on the Eastern Bluebird in addition to monitoring my eighty-three nestbox section of the Transcontinental Bluebird Trail. Philip F. Devaux, Ed66, is the superintendent of schools in Marblehead, Massachusetts, and was presented the 2001 Massachusetts Superintendent of the Year Award by the American Association of School Administrators at the National Conference on Education. He was elected president of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents for the 20002001 school year. Emile J. Hamwey, E66, is president of Fay, Spofford, and Thorndike, an engineering and planning firm in Burlington, Massachusetts. He has been with the company thirty-three years and has served as a member of the board of directors since 1986. Michael Kenyon, BA66, is the vice president of consulting at Gartner/Griggs-Anderson in Portland, Oregon. Joe Rizzo, E66, of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, has started ValuEdge Consulting Services, which provides expertise in lean manufacturing implementation and supply chain and extended enterprise management for manufacturers. She had been head nurse for the Walpole schools for fifteen years. She wrote and was awarded a four-year Enhanced School Health Services grant from the state Department of Public Health. Catherine and the Walpole school nursing program were featured as the cover story in the January edition of On Call, a magazine for nurses and health-care professionals. Charlie Butters, LA67, of Natick, Massachusetts, writes, Im back! The May 1998 issue of this magazine incorrectly reported me as an item in the obituariesdefinitely not the greatest way to make the school paper. To Paul Bloh, Dean McGranahan, Butch Turcotte, George Campbell, Eddie LaNorman, and the rest of my hockey buddies, I say: Keep your sticks up, cause you may not see them coming. Heck, it took me three and a half years to find out that I died. Jim DellaPenna, BA68, and his wife, Cindy, are celebrating their thirtieth wedding anniversary in September. We moved from Maine to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1994 and greatly enjoy Southern living, he writes. I finally got tired of working for other people, began my own hauling company last year, and love every minute of it. She has written Can-Do Activities for Adults with Alzheimers Disease, a book that adapts Dr. Howard Gardners theory of multiple intelligences to geriatric activity planning. Donna Halper, LA69, MEd70, MA73, of North Quincy, Massachusetts, is a member of the journalism department at Emerson College in Boston and the author of Invisible Stars: A Social History of Women in American Broadcasting. She notes she was the first woman announcer in the history of WNEU (now WRBB). The book features a rare photo from my personal collection of me doing radio at WNEU in 1968, she writes. William S. Howard, E69, of Somerset, New Jersey, is an executive vice president in the corporate office of the chairman of Camp, Dresser & McKee, Inc. He is a member of Northeasterns board of overseers and serves on the Student Affairs and Commencement Committee. Hes also a member of the board of trustees of the National Commission for Cooperative Education.
