Far-Sighted

I read with great interest about the accomplishments and hard work of Michael Silevitch and his team ["The Vision Thing," November]. As a Northeastern graduate, I was particularly impressed (as the entire university should be) by the award of the coveted National Science Foundation grant.

Having recently visited Boston, I've also seen the university has recognized the need for new and improved buildings to accommodate the challenges of the future. Congratulations to all of you who are working so hard.

Inter Views

I cannot believe the editors allowed the inclusion of the interview with Heather Patrick, a senior in the School of Nursing [Q&A, November]. I was embarrassed for Ms. Patrick, and as a registered nurse, I am appalled that the magazine approved such a degrading focus on a worthy profession. Help me understand the merit of this interview. Could it have been the insightful question "What's the grossest thing you've had to do in nursing school," the ridiculous educational exploration of "how to empty a bedpan," or the absurd dream-date question? How can a university that has demonstrated a strong commitment to nursing lower itself with such a cheap sexist shot?

I was captivated by the interview with Heather Patrick. Her scholastics and professional demeanor are wonderful reflections of the Northeastern community. As a student at the Massachusetts School of Law, I can identify easily with those long hours of study paying off. Good job, Heather!
