Leo F. Peters, E'60, ME'66, of Melrose, Massachusetts, received the
2000 Environmental Merit Award from the Environmental Business Council
of New England for his "years of meritorious service, leadership,
and dedication to the quality of the environment and to the development
of the environmental industry in New England." Peters is chairman
of the board of Weston & Sampson Engineers of Peabody, Massachusetts,
where he has worked since 1965.
Peter N. Bouyoukas, UC'61, retired in 1998 after nearly thirty years
of service with Stop & Shop Supermarkets, most recently as purchasing
manager. He writes, "My wife, Jane, and I now alternate our time between
homes in Needham, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida, with stops in Richmond,
Virginia, to visit our daughter and grandchildren."
John J. Merianos, BPH'61, is a senior sciences fellow with International
Specialty Products in Wayne, New Jersey.
Art Smith, E'61, says he's "withdrawn from retirement to visit
the world while working with Pacific Architects and Engineers, Government
Services." He is currently in Moscow, Russia, servicing the contract
of the U.S. embassy and the embassies of newly independent states. Prior
to that, he worked in Germany as a project manager servicing the Army's
Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.
Paul Coran, BA'64, of Rockville, Maryland, is a civil rights counsel
for the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C. He says he's "traveled
abroad extensively over the past thirty-two years, both professionally
and for pleasure." His wife, Brenda, is a licensed social worker specializing
in bereavement counseling.
Judith O. Liff, MA'65, was honored in October by the Young Women's
Christian Association of Nashville and Middle Tennessee with membership
in the Academy for Women of Achievement. She is the immediate past chair
of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, a grant-making organization
that specializes in providing ways for citizens to contribute to their
communities. Liff has worked as director of community affairs for Steiner-Liff
Iron and Metals and as development director for WPLN-FM. She has served
on the boards of ten community and professional organizations, including
Gilda's Club of Nashville, Indiana University Colloquium for Women, the
Nashville Library, and Family and Children's Services.
Jack Kurdzionak, Ed'67, and Terry Ayers Kurdzionak, N'67,
have expanded the Watchmaker, their watch and clock shop in Stoneham, Massachusetts.
The shop now includes Eckcells, Terry's wholesale watch-battery business.
Their sons, John and David, clockmaker and store manager, respectively,
have joined them in the business. Jack is the secretary of the American
Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute of Harrison, Ohio, and has been a director
of the institute for four of the past five years.
Nancy Sohn Swartz, Ed'67, of Randolph, Massachusetts, reports that
her son, David, recently married Dr. Kimberly Safman of Los Angeles.
Stephen Israel, BA'69, of Newton, Massachusetts, was recently elected
president of the Leaders Association of New England Financial, a professional
organization composed of the top members of the company's field force.
