
1940s
Robert A. Dixon, E'41, of Middletown, Rhode Island, notes he "made
octogenarian two summers ago." He has two great-grandchildren and
is "moderately active and enjoying life."
J. Douglas Brown, E'42, is saddened to inform classmates that his
wife of fifty-seven years died in August 1999. He writes, "I am permanently
living at our total-care home of Bentley Village in Naples, Florida. I
hope to visit New England in the summer. Had a nice visit by Ray Bartlett,
E'42, and his wife."
Francis W. Gardner, BA'43, of Higganum, Connecticut, reports he
retired from Arrowhart in 1980, went back to work in 1982 delivering payrolls
for SDP two or three days a week, and then retired again in 1998. He writes,
"Had open-heart surgery and gave up golf. Now spend time at seaside
cottage in Charlestown, Rhode Island, built by my kids and me."
Mariana Johnson, BB'43, of Daytona Beach, Florida, says she's "still
enjoying living on the most famous beach. I take cruises in the Caribbean.
Recently visited the Panama Canal and Costa Rica. Next year hope to cruise
in the Mediterranean."
Sumner D. Miller, BA'43, retired from self-employment as a certified
public accountant and is living in Escazu, Costa Rica. "Enjoying sunshine,
good weather, and golf twelve months a year," he writes.
Francis E. Harrington, E'46, of Knoxville, Tennessee, says he "still
feels there is a need for a reunion covering the years 1943 to 1947. Without
the war, I would have graduated in 1944. Classmates from 1939 to 1941 graduated
from 1943 to 1947."
James A. Rawnsley, E'46, of West Palm Beach, notes he "came
to Florida in 1956, worked for RCA at Cape Canaveral, and have been here
ever since. Retired in 1990."
Robert B. MacGregor, E'47, of St. Petersburg, Florida, writes, "We
have retired from the retirement hotel business. I am seventy-seven, Margie
is seventy. We now remodel old houses to keep busy."
Allen N. Towne, E'47, of Midlothian, Virginia, has written a book,
Doctor Danger Forward, about his experiences as a combat medical aide in
Company B, 1st Medical Battalion, First Infantry Division, during World
War II. Towne received the Bronze Star and Oak Leaf Cluster for his heroism
on Omaha Beach and in Normandy. He is a retired engineer and businessman
who received three U.S. patents. Towne has taught at both Northeastern
and the University of New Hampshire.
John A. Tucker, E'49, of Wellesley, Massachusetts, is listed in
the 2000 edition of Who's Who in America. Tucker retired from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology after forty-four years of service but now serves
there as a lecturer and as director emeritus of the VI-A internship program.
While attending Northeastern, Tucker founded the Gamma Beta chapter of
Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical engineering honor society.
