1940s

Virginia Kane O'Connell,
BB'41, of Charlotte, North Carolina, writes, "Enjoyed two wonderful weeks in Ireland. Plan an Alaskan trip in 2000. Life is not dull."

Paul M. Hopkins, E'43, of Birmingham, Alabama, says, "Thanks to the electrical lab work I did at N.U., I am now reasonably proficient at repairing electromechanical clocks as a hobby. Of course, they are easy to repair. I would be interested in hearing from similar-minded retirees."

Joseph Rydzel, LA'43, of Overland Park, Kansas, retired from teaching at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, after thirty-eight years. He writes, "Two heart attacks, including a quadruple bypass, have not slowed my wife and me from traveling abroad and in the U.S. We've attended over a dozen Elderhostels and visited children in Cleveland, Atlanta, and Dodge City, as well as Hilton Head. Play golf weekly and do lots of volunteer work at local hospitals." His e-mail address is <docjoe@mymailstation.com>.

Giacomo F. Diodati, E'44, of Purchase, New York, writes that he and his wife, Josephine, are retired. "We enjoy sports and the leisure of retirement," he says. "I would like to hear from some of my classmates who are still with us."

Charlie Spear, E'48, of Wausau, Wisconsin, says he's "fully retired" and played in his eighth senior men's national curling bonspeil in the Iron Range of Minnesota. He celebrated fifty years of marriage and fifty years in Wisconsin in 1999. "Turned my detached insurance agency (New England Life) over to son, Bill, who now has twelve years' experience," he says. "Golf, antique cars, some travel, good life."

Pete Ziner, E'48, of Wayland, Massachusetts, was named Volunteer of the Year by the Senior PGA Tour in 1999. He has been a fixture at the BankBoston Classic at Nashawtuc Country Club for eight years. Of the Senior PGA honors, he says, "I knew my name had been submitted, but I'm quite honored and surprised too."

Donald W. Kerr, E'49, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, writes, "I was impressed with the manner in which N.U. welcomed back to campus members of the class of 1949 for their fiftieth reunion. Thank you for such a memorable occasion."
