A message from the President

It is with great pride that I share with you the success of The Leadership Campaign. Northeastern concluded the largest campaign in our history on February 15, 2006, with more than $200 million raised.

Thanks to the leadership of Campaign Chairman Ronald L. Rossetti, BA'66, the work of many dedicated volunteers and staff, and with the generosity of alumni, friends, parents, corporations, and foundations, the Campaign has helped to transform Northeastern physically and intellectually.

The Campaign has enabled us to construct and renovate many campus buildings, endow new faculty chairs, beautify our grounds, fund more scholarships, boost the endowment, and support more academic programs, community outreach initiatives, and research efforts.

It is important that we celebrate the success of this campaign and truly appreciate its many tangible results. Yet, Northeastern is, in many ways, still a work in progress; this campaign is the foundation upon which we will build an even greater university.

Northeastern's future has taken shape in this Campaign, as we develop ourselves as a national research university. I thank you for your generous support of The Leadership Campaign and encourage you to remain committed to Northeastern as we continue to build this magnificent University.

Richard M. Freeland

A message from the Leadership Campaign Chairman

The tremendous success of the Campaign is a tribute to the more than 63,000 alumni, friends, parents, corporations and foundations who generously gave more than $200 million to this important effort.

The University surpassed its goal on the shoulders of a large variety of gifts, both large and small. Without this support Northeastern would not be where it is today.

I am proud to have been the chairman of the Leadership Campaign and grateful to everyone who worked so hard and gave so much to the largest campaign in the University’s history.

Thanks to Northeastern’s many loyal supporters, we have constructed and renovated eleven major facilities on campus, funded 198 scholarships, beautified the campus, strengthened the endowment, bulked up our research programs, and expanded by fourteen the number of professorships, lectureships and faculty chairs.

Most importantly, we have laid the groundwork for Northeastern’s future and kept our promise to provide the best educational experience for our students.

For more than a century, Northeastern has been a living monument to the determination and perseverance of people seeking to better themselves through education and hard work.

We should honor the legacy of Northeastern’s proud past by building upon the accomplishments of The Leadership Campaign and continuing to be a model of success in higher education. We are deeply thankful for this outpouring of support.

Ronald L. Rossetti, BA’66

A message from the Chairman of the Board

The culmination of The Leadership Campaign is an historic feat for Northeastern because it represents the largest campaign in the University’s history.

I have been associated with Northeastern for decades, but it has been during the last few years that I have seen some of the most remarkable progress at the University.

The campus has been transformed by new facilities; the endowment has grown; the quality of the faculty has been recognized nationally; external funding for research has increased markedly; and admissions applications, freshman SAT scores, and student retention rates have risen dramatically.

Northeastern has achieved success on many fronts because of the dedication and commitment of its alumni and supporters who have given generously of their time and resources. I extend my heartfelt appreciation and admiration to three people who have played significant roles in the University’s success.

Down the home stretch of The Leadership Campaign, President Richard M. Freeland; Campaign Chairman Ronald L. Rossetti, BA’66; and Senior Vice President for Advancement Bob Cunningham have ensured that Northeastern met The Leadership Campaign’s $200 million goal.

I appreciate their dedication and commitment and have enjoyed working closely with them. Most of all, I extend my gratitude to everyone who contributed to The Leadership Campaign and made it such a great success.

Neal Finnegan, BA’61, Hon.’98
