Vibrant Campus Community
Ask Student Government Association President Ashley Adams what the Leadership Campaign means to students, and she will quickly rattle of a list of improvements to campus that have turned the former commuter campus into a bustling residential community, and made Northeastern the destination of choice for high-achieving high-school seniors across the country.
Whether the stunning Behrakis Health Sciences Center, the Levine Marketplace, Lawrence Physics Laboratory, Matthews Arena, or the new home for the College of Computer Science with its dazzling Gicca Atrium and state-of-the-art computing facilities, these enhancements have changed the face of Northeastern as well as the educational and social experience of its students.
"I was floored when I first came to see Northeastern three years ago," says Adams, a middler majoring in International Affairs and English.
"So much has changed since then. Just walking to a class in Behrakis or Shillman, you feel such a sense of pride in the University. It is inspiring to think just how dear Northeastern is in the hearts of alumni who give back to the school to make these things possible.
"Clearly, Northeastern had a huge impact on their lives, even though it was largely a commuter school then. I imagine students here now will feel that impact even more."
Today's Northeastern is a far cry from the Northeastern of even twenty years ago. Now a lively, residential community, it offers a full-range of services to students from across the nation and more than 100 countries.
Thanks to the Leadership Campaign, facilities and services as diverse as dining halls, research laboratories, and meeting and study spaces have been created or given much-needed facelifts. The result? A bustling campus replete with award-winning architectural gems and a growing national reputation as
a school offering a rich and rewarding student experience. And this beauty isn't only skin deep. Behind the gleaming glass facades are cutting-edge research and computer labs, technologically sophisticated classrooms, and study spaces that are enriching students' education.
These modernized facilities enhance Northeastern's distinctive model of cooperative education by enabling interdisciplinary collaborations, better reflecting the sophistication and technology of today's workplace, and elevating the learning and social experience for students in every college.
"When family and friends visit campus, they are just awestruck by the technology, the beautiful campus, and the unique buildings. Students feel a tremendous sense of pride showing people around. It's a very cool place to go to school."
